Welcome to Old Scotch Pipes & Drums

Old Scotch Pipes & Drums (OSPD) is a welcoming Melbourne pipe band, bringing together pipers and drummers of different ages and levels of experience for competition, public performances and the friendship of band life.

Founded in 2009 by former Scotch College students under Pipe Major Brian Symington, the band has grown into a broader musical community. Membership is open to players beyond the Old Scotch community, including school leavers looking to continue their piping or drumming.

Today, OSPD fields Grade 3 and Grade 4B bands, combining experienced musical leadership with opportunities for developing players. We are supported by the Old Scotch Collegians Association (OSCA) and maintain strong connections with Scotch College and Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC).

Victorian champions

In 2026, our Grade 3 band won the Victorian Pipe Band Championships and was named Champion Grade 3 Band for the 2025/26 competition season.

In August 2024, the band competed in Grade 3B at the European and World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, finishing seventh at the Europeans and equal twelfth at the Worlds. The trip included a performance at the Piping Live festival in Buchanan Street.
