Joining Old Scotch Pipes and Drums

New Members Welcome!

Old Scotch Pipes and Drums is open to membership for all prospective players wanting to join a fun and social competition band. Currently we have a wide variety of playing members in addition to being a fantastic opportunity for currently playing Scotch College pipers and drummers who are looking to continue playing in a band once leaving school. To find out more contact enquiries@oldscotchpipesanddrums.com.au alternatively there is an application form located at the end of this page or call our Pipe Major - David Forbes on 0403 266 145.

Annual Subscription

The OSPD Committee works hard to keep the cost of being a member of OSPD affordable, with the band’s subscriptions amongst the lowest of all of the Melbourne based pipe bands.

A key part of the band’s annual revenue are the membership subscriptions.  This revenue assists in managing the band’s annual expenses which include the purchase of new uniform, instruments (including reeds, chanters, drum heads and snares) and importantly, enabling the band to offer discounted student rates when we travel to compete.

Subscription payments are due in February/March each year and for 2021 are:

Adults                                       $100 per annum

Students / Pensioners             $50 per annum

Non-playing Members             $50 per annum

Whats included

Yearly membership will provision for active players registration with Pipe Bands Victoria for our competition season as well as the provision of your competition uniform on a loan basis to playing members including:

·      Kilt

·      Sporran

·      Flashes

·      Tie

·      Waist coat

·      Glengarry and badge

·      Inverness cape

·      Drums and drum sticks

·      Pipe bag cover

·      Pipe cords

·      Pipe chanter and reeds

We ask all members to take good care of their issued uniform, making sure it is stored carefully and regularly cleaned and remember, it remains the property of the band.

Individual players are responsible for their own:

·      Black shoes or brogues

·      Navy socks (purchased from the band for $20)

·      White long sleeve shirt

·      Practice chanter and reed

·      Bagpipes, including drone reeds and Ross moisture control system

The band does not retain a large amount of spare uniform and equipment in its Quartermaster Store.  As such, all playing members are asked to return band supplied uniform and equipment if they leave the band or if they are planning to take a break for a period of longer that three months.

This is to ensure that the band can efficiently manage its inventory of uniform and to be in positions to fit out any new members.  All items of uniform and equipment should be returned to the band in good condition. Importantly, lost uniform or equipment or items not returned will need to be reimbursed, at cost, to the band.
